Background
Future-oriented co-creation projects are being actively promoted to support market growth in the Global South while simultaneously revitalizing the Japanese economy by solving social problems faced by these nations. In such industrial cooperation projects, the technology, know-how, and knowledge that Japanese manufacturing companies have cultivated in the process of maintaining and improving their competitiveness are considered essential for the economic development of each country, and there are high hopes for local business creation through collaboration with local companies.
To meet these expectations, DI and DENSO will establish a collaborative framework with the assistance of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to work on business demonstration of a digital platform that will strengthen India’s manufacturing supply chain and support the mobility industry infrastructure.
Support Details
This project is an effort to realize a data-driven business in collaboration with DENSO, with the aim of creating new businesses that go beyond the framework of automotive parts manufacturing by solving issues in India’s manufacturing and mobility industries.
[Phase 1] Market Analysis and Feasibility Study
DENSO will act as the project leader and work with DI to explore business opportunities in India and formulate business strategies. As a result of market research, it was discovered that the Indian manufacturing industry faces the following serious challenges:
Challenges facing India’s manufacturing industry:
- Low productivity across the manufacturing industry due to a weak supply chain spanning suppliers, manufacturing plants, and transport companies
- The automobile lifecycle business is immature due to a lack of collaboration between companies surrounding the automobile industry, such as car dealerships, repair shops, recycling plants, and insurance companies
- Compared to global companies, the Indian manufacturing industry as a whole is lacking in measures to reduce GHG emissions, delaying progress toward carbon neutrality
We identified business opportunities that could be achieved by solving these issues and developed two new business concepts centered around an integrated digital platform.
- Integrated Manufacturing: A digital platform that integrates and manages supply chains consisting of multiple manufacturing companies, providing solutions that improve productivity in the Indian manufacturing industry by streamlining procurement, sales, production, and transportation. It also promotes environmental measures by managing GHG emissions (Scope 1-3) generated during the manufacturing and transportation processes.
- Mobility Circular Economy: Provides vehicle owners with a digital platform service that makes it easy to repair, buy, sell, and dispose of their vehicles. By analyzing post-sale vehicle data, the company aims to revitalize the automobile lifecycle business in India.
[Phase 2] Social Implementation of New Businesses
The new business plan formulated in Phase 1 was adopted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in July 2025 for its “Industrial Cooperation Program through Technology Transfer from Japan to Global South Countries,” and a demonstration project will begin in India as the:
(scheduled to end in November 2027).

This demonstration project aims to promote the deployment of Japanese digital technologies and services in the automotive and manufacturing sectors through local demonstrations of Solwer, an integrated digital platform for the manufacturing and mobility sectors. In addition, an educational program on digital and AI utilization skills required for utilizing Solwer will be offered as an opportunity to improve the skills of local workers.
